The Rockefeller University seeks a Scientific Editor, JEM (Salary Range: $74K - $85K) to join Rockefeller University Press. The Journal of Experimental Medicine (JEM) seeks a talented individual to join the editorial team as a Scientific Editor or Senior Scientific Editor, dependent on work experience. JEM is a multidisciplinary journal, published by not-for-profit, academic publisher Rockefeller University Press (RUP), and dedicated to publishing high-quality research in experimental medicine and disease pathogenesis. Reporting to the Executive Editor, the Scientific Editor will oversee the peer-review process for submitted research papers, assess submitted research papers for scope, originality, rigor, context, and implications, and provide editorial recommendations. Will collaborate with other editors on the JEM team and experts on JEM's academic editorial board on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and peer-review, represent JEM at national and international scientific conferences and research institutions, recruit high-quality content publishing in JEM, and establish relationships with researchers through outreach to the respective scientific communities and by providing excellent author service. Will commission reviews, in collaboration with JEM Reviews Editor, and other front-matter content for JEM and work closely with colleagues across RUP on press-wide initiatives. Will also promote journal policies and manage projects that contribute toward JEM's strategic direction and vision.
Ph.D. degree in immunology or related field required. Must have a passion for science, a deep understanding of the field, and an eagerness to stay current with new trends and developments. A strong interest in scientific publishing and publication ethics, excellent critical thinking skills, and superb attention to detail is a must. Excellent interpersonal, communication, networking, and organizational skills required. Must be able to work successfully independently and in a diverse global team. This position will require traveling to conferences and visiting research institutions when travel resumes. Candidates with a minimum of two years of editorial experience will be considered for a senior editor position.
