The School of Journalism and Electronic Media in the University of Tennessee Knoxville's (UTK) College of Communication and Information (CCI) is now accepting applications for a nine-month, tenure-track, assistant professor position in journalism and electronic media. The position will begin in August 2023. The Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.
Duties associated with the position include a 2-2 teaching load, mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, service to the school, college, and university, and a personal/collaborative research agenda.
The School: The ACEJMC-accredited School of Journalism and Electronic Media's (http://jem.cci.utk.edu/) 16 faculty members are highly engaged scholars in a diverse array of research and creative areas. The School has approximately 400 undergraduates, 30 MS and Ph.D. students and houses a variety of student media: the Beacon, UTK's student newspaper; Scoop magazine; WUTK-90.3 FM; TVC-The Volunteer Channel; Land Grant Films; and the online news site Tennessee Journalist. Faculty are supported by the Adam Brown Social Media Command Center, focus group facilities, user experience laboratories, and professional staff within the college to assist with sponsored research.

The ideal candidate should have a proven publication record with a research agenda focused on science/health communication in one or more of the following areas: science or health literacy, misinformation/disinformation, ethics, diversity, and social justice. The ideal candidate must be able to teach courses in science, health, environmental, or risk communication, and/or the intersection of technology and communication. Ability to teach courses in multimedia production and/or other courses related to emerging media is desirable. The successful candidate will join a program with specialties in news, creative media, sports media, science communication, and digital media. A Ph.D. in mass communication, journalism, communications, or a related field is required by date of appointment. The salary is competitive and based on experience and academic credentials.
