The basics of this position:
A part-time/temporary student editor position is open for The Forum Newspaper on the campus of St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley Communications Department. This person will report to the faculty adviser for The Forum and under indirect supervision, prepares, edits, formats, and writes articles for print and/or the website. Ensures all materials meet established standards of appearance and content. Position requires a) editing, proofreading, and preparing material for publication b) overseeing production schedules; c) serving as liaison between the publication and authors, printers, and/or publishers/administration; and d) leading/guiding volunteer student staff performing related work.
What you'll do:
• Edits, proofreads, and produces copy for The Forum, the student newspaper of St. Louis Community College – Florissant Valley. • Oversees production schedules to ensure completion by set deadlines. • Serves as a liaison between the Forum and writers/staff/administration. • May maintain databases and files including those used to track publishing schedule. • May coordinate department activities such as production of documents, scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and maintaining files. • May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation. • Ability to meet strict deadlines • Weekly meeting with adviser • Proper use of proofreader’s marks • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. • Proofread articles for spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and work with students to achieve the best from them • Work with staff and students to generate content and topic ideas. Generate a report on student/editor activities
Education, experience, and other requirements:
• One year of writing/editing experience on a student or professional publication, or at least two college-level English courses completed. • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
